ATTENTION ALL CLUBS PLEASE CLICK ON THE LINK BELOW FOR Sport England Funding FOR CLUBS, This is a grant scheme to help clubs get through the Corona crisis.

GM have suspended there affiliation fees for 2020 unless bowls starts up again by July then fees will be payable if leagues commence playing, Leagues & clubs that have already paid will be credited as payed for the 2021 season if bowling doesn't commence in 2020, BCGBA fees are still to be payed & PLI is still to be purchased.

ALL GM COMPETITIONS FOR 2020 HAVE BEEN CANCELLED EXCEPT THE BLESMA & HAROLD BARLOW PAIRS further information on these will be made available nearer the time.

Coronavirus Guidance

Following a number of queries received by BCGBA, and the media attention surrounding Coronavirus, BCGBA wishes to advise that no events under its jurisdiction are affected at present.

BCGBA will continue to monitor the situation and further guidance will be issued at a later date if necessary.

For more information, please visit:  If you have a personal concern you should contact

If you have been asked to self-isolate then you should follow the advice given by your GP or NHS111.

It would be sensible to wash your hands before and after any game or practice session and the cleaning of jacks should be done on a regular basis.  Contact between players should be reduced to a minimum.  Disposable paper cloths for cleaning is recommended rather than a reusable one.

Care should also be taken with the use of bowls cleaning cloths and should be washed on a regular basis and probably best not to share with someone else

We have not received any additional advice from the government or NHS at present and will continue to monitor the situation.

Leagues will potentially need to review their rules on cancellation of matches should the situation change.

BCGBA will be monitoring the situation & will be heeding the advice given by the government & the health authorities before making a decision on when to start again which hopefully will be sometime in July / August.

In the mean time BCGBA recommends that all leagues & clubs make contingency plans for the possibility of the commencement of bowling at sometime later in the year, if they so wish.

Clubs should collect membership fee's from it's members & pay any fee's to leagues & counties that are due as they all need these monies to be able to continue.

PLI should also be purchased especially during the suspension members are more than likely to go & have a practice.

I have now received confirmation from Endsleigh and Sportscover for the insurance pricing for 2020 as follows:
PLI  £2M  -  £45.00
PLI  £5M  -  £49.00
PLI  £10M  -  £65.00
D&O  -  £20.00
PA  -  £1.00 per person
The insurance portal is scheduled to go live on Wednesday 18 March 2020.

Players Dress
19~ 1 Suitable footwear must be worn. Hard or block-heeled footwear, or open-toed footwear must not be worn whilst on the green in any match played under the Association’s jurisdiction.

The word 'sandals' has been taken out of the bye-law as there are makes of 'sandals' that are closed-toed, but any open-toed footwear is still not permitted. This is a bye law not a Law of the Game so a player must be prevented from starting a match if wearing open-toed footwear.

Law of the Game 7.5 will have an addition in brackets - (Interpretation note - When an end is concluded, i.e. all the bowls have come to rest, a player may remove their own non-counting bowl without incurring a penalty. This interpretation will be proposed as a full Law change at the January 2021 Rules Revision meeting)

GM have sent cheques to the cancer charities for £300 & £100 to BLESMA from monies raised during the season. Confirmation of these cheques will be shown on our Facebook page.

Handbooks will still be handed out at North Chadderton on the 23rd March as the county officials will still be there to answer any questions leagues have & to except any affiliation payments. If a league does not attend & doesn't make arrangements for someone to collect their handbooks we will deliver them to your league at a cost of £2-50 (if you wish to have them delivered can you please send me the address you wish the handbooks to be delivered to)
